Fun fact like alot of americans myself included he was a liberal in that he meant it when he said blacks and others should have the same rights as the whites. He treated them like people not pets and a voting block. He distanced himself from the scene when it was clear thay communists had taken over. He loved america...even though he was not american. America is exceptionally good and fair when compared to any other society from any other time in history. Have we had some bad periods...yep hell yea but when compared to the world at large its the greatest country of all. Believe it or not but liberals used to believe in this as well they were no commies or socialists.

Gordon recorded this on his debut album, but didn't sing as many verses. This is a good live version, though. One thing I liked about the folkies and old-timey music folks---they kept their mouths shut until it was time to sing or applaud.

I'd heard of Dave Van Ronk for years via Hot Tuna and Hesitation Blues, and finally got to experience him in 1998 in Seattle at the little folk stage of the annual Bumbershoot fest. Boy was I lucky. I knew I was in the presence of something very rare indeed. Woah! Cut me to the quick.

he was anti-establishment like John Kerry when Kerry was featured on the news opposing the vietnam war. Which is to say, Ochs was part of the cia's 'anti establishment' movement. His mind control eventually malfunctioned.

Ahh, I see what you're saying now in your original comment. You're saying they're not actually anti-establishment but rather intelligence plants. Do you have any actual proof and documentation to the claim that Ochs was an intelligence asset and/or mind controlled? I'm well aware that many music icons and people politically involved were the ideal subjects for this kind of experimentation, but I've yet to see anything to officially back up the claims you're making about Ochs.

This may be earlier than 1/66: GL put this on his first solo album (recorded 12/64, though it wasn't released until early '66) and he says here Ochs "wrote this in Toronto last summer. " That may have been '64. Ochs played the unfinished song for Gord and the version on Lightfoot! varies a little with the version here and the one Ochs finally recorded (live) around Christmas '65.

This video shows the great Tom Rush at the peak of his talent. But his recent work is still impressive after all of these years. Rush is one of the prototypical singer songwriter guitarists who, in my view, never got the recognition he fully deserves. I saw him back in the 70s and he was incredible. BTW, he is a terrific acoustic guitarist, too!
